TIG Welding in Austin for Fabs, Factories and Breweries

Austin's welding work is mostly clean stainless. We TIG weld 316L process tubing and support steel around the chip fabs, build frames and fixtures for the factories off SH 130, and handle sanitary tube and tank repairs for breweries from South Austin to Georgetown.

Short answer

Who does stainless TIG welding in Austin?

TIG Weld Techs serves Austin and Central Texas with mobile TIG rigs and shop fabrication. Most of the work here is 304 and 316L stainless: process tubing, skids and supports around semiconductor plants, sanitary lines for breweries, and fixtures for tech manufacturers. We weld to the spec your site sets. Travel is quoted by distance.

Who we weld for around Austin

01

Semiconductor

The fabs in northeast Austin and out toward Taylor run on 316L tubing. Ultra-high-purity gas lines are orbital welded under each fab's own spec. Around them sits plenty of manual TIG work: process cooling water, drain and exhaust lines, tool hook-up frames and stainless skids.

02

Tech and automotive manufacturing

The plants along SH 130 and in Round Rock and Pflugerville go through fixtures, carts, guards and machine bases. We build them in aluminum and stainless from a sketch or a CAD file, and repair cracked tooling so a line can get back up.

03

Breweries and distilleries

Central Texas has a brewery in nearly every town, from East Austin to Dripping Springs and Georgetown. We weld 304 sanitary tube and tri-clamp ferrules, add ports to fermenters, and fix cracked jacket welds and cellar carts. Every product-contact joint gets a full purge.

04

Labs and research

University and private labs need stainless benches, vacuum chamber ports, cryogenic fittings and one-off fixtures. The jobs are small and very specific about dimensions. We TIG weld them in the shop, keep the stainless free of carbon steel contamination, and send them back clean.

What fab-adjacent work looks like

Inside a semiconductor plant, the gas lines that feed the process tools are orbital welded, electropolished and installed by specialists under the fab's specification. We don't pretend otherwise. The work around those lines is where manual TIG fits: process cooling water, wastewater and drain piping, exhaust duct supports, utility skids and the stainless frames the tools sit on.

Clean still matters on that work. 316L tube gets cut square, deburred and wiped with alcohol, then welded with an argon back purge and a gas lens cup so the heat tint stays in the straw range. Our pipe and tube TIG welding page goes deeper on fit-up and purge.

Fab construction sites run strict badging, drug screens and site orientation, and some areas need cleanroom gowning. Send the general contractor's requirements early. The badging can take longer than the welding.

Brewery work around Central Texas

Brewery repairs tend to be small and urgent. A cracked weld on a glycol jacket. A new thermowell port on a fermenter. A sanitary tee added to a transfer line. The tube is usually 1.5 or 2 inch 304 with a 0.065 inch wall, fused square under purge so there's no crevice for anything to grow in.

Tanks rarely leave the building, so this is mostly mobile TIG welding on the brewery floor, with the tank empty, cleaned and vented and the jacket drained. Product-contact welds get blended and passivated afterward.

I-35, distance and the service mix

I-35 through Austin is one of the most congested stretches of highway in Texas, and Georgetown to San Marcos is about 60 miles of it. We use MoPac, SH 130 and SH 45 where they help. Travel is quoted by distance, so a job in Leander and one in Kyle won't price the same.

Most Austin jobs fall under stainless and tube work. Factory fixtures and machine bases come to the shop as custom fabrication. Hill Country ranch and lake work mixes in too, like aluminum boat ladders and dock hardware out on Lake Travis.

FAQ

TIG welding in Austin: questions

Not covered here?

Call or text (346) 561-0862. A photo of the part usually answers half the questions.

Can you weld UHP gas lines at an Austin fab?

We weld by hand, not orbital. Ultra-high-purity gas lines are usually orbital welded by specialist contractors under the fab's own spec. We handle the work around them: process cooling water, drains, skids, supports and stainless frames for tool hook-up. If you're not sure where your scope falls, send the spec and we'll tell you straight.

Can you weld a brewery fermenter in Austin?

In most cases, yes. We add ports and fittings, repair cracked jacket welds and fix legs and manways on 304 tanks. The tank has to be empty, cleaned and vented first, with the glycol jacket drained. We purge the back side wherever we can reach it, then blend and passivate product-contact surfaces.

Do you serve Round Rock, Cedar Park and Georgetown?

Yes. We cover Austin and the towns around it, including Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Leander, Kyle, Buda and San Marcos. On-site jobs use mobile rigs, with travel quoted by distance. Shop parts can be shipped or delivered.

What do I need to send for a stainless welding quote in Austin?

Send the alloy, the tube or sheet size, wall thickness, the number of joints, and photos or a drawing. Note any spec, such as ASME BPE or your site's own standard, and the finish you need inside and out. Call (346) 561-0862 or use the quote form.

Why does stainless turn black on the back of the weld?

That black, crusty metal is called sugaring. It happens when the hot root is exposed to oxygen. The fix is a proper argon back purge, controlled heat input and clean tube. Straw to light gold is usually acceptable on the root side, but check what your spec allows before you sign off.
