Houston and the Gulf Coast
We do TIG welding across greater Houston: process pipe and stainless at the plants along the Ship Channel, aluminum on boats around Clear Lake and Kemah, and repair work for equipment shops from Katy to Baytown. Small parts come to the shop. Big ones get a mobile rig.
Gulf Coast · Houston, Texas
Short answer
TIG Weld Techs does TIG welding throughout the Houston area, with mobile rigs for on-site work at plants, terminals and marinas, and shop work for parts that can travel. We weld stainless, aluminum, chromoly and carbon pipe to the code your job specifies, such as ASME B31.3. Travel is quoted by distance.
What we do in Houston
01
Plants from Pasadena and Deer Park out to Baytown run on carbon and stainless process pipe. We put in TIG root passes on B31.3 lines, repair stainless instrument tubing, and handle the small-bore tie-ins that pile up during a turnaround. Your procedure and inspection plan set the rules.
02
Along the Energy Corridor and up toward Spring, equipment builders need chromoly and stainless parts that hold pressure: manifolds, skid piping, sensor housings and test fixtures. These are mostly shop jobs. Send a drawing with the material and code.
03
Clear Lake, Kemah and Seabrook keep a lot of aluminum afloat. We weld 5052 and 5086 hulls, T-tops, rails, tanks and ladder brackets with 5356 filler, and fix stainless hardware that has cracked from salt and vibration. Boats usually get welded where they sit.
04
The Texas Medical Center and the food plants on the north and east sides depend on 304 and 316L equipment that has to stay clean. We weld sanitary tube, carts, sinks and frames with a full back purge, so the inside of the joint is as clean as the outside.

In Houston, the joint is usually the easy part. Expect a site safety orientation before anyone strikes an arc, a hot work permit each shift, a gas test at the work area and, most of the time, a fire watch. Marine terminals regulated under MTSA also want a TWIC card. Tell us the site requirements up front and we'll get the paperwork moving before the rig shows up.
On the weld itself, TIG earns its keep on the root. An open root on 2-inch schedule 40 wants a 3/32 to 1/8 inch gap, a consistent land and a fit-up that doesn't fight you halfway around. On stainless lines we purge the ID with argon behind dams or water-soluble paper until the root comes out straw to light gold, not gray and crusty. More on that in our pipe and tube TIG welding service.

Houston is big in every direction. Katy to Baytown is around 55 miles of I-10, and The Woodlands to Pearland is about 50 by way of I-45 and SH 288. A rig crossing the 610 Loop at 7 a.m. can spend more time in traffic than under the hood. We'd rather start early at a plant in La Porte than sit on the Beltway at rush hour.
Travel is quoted by distance from where the rig starts. If the part can move, shop welding is often cheaper than paying for drive time and a permit-heavy day on site.

Plants and terminals mostly need mobile TIG welding on pipe, tube and equipment that can't come out of service. Boat owners and marinas lean on aluminum work, done on the trailer or at the dock where hot work is allowed. Equipment builders on the west side tend to send fabrication and cracked-part repair to the shop.
Stainless needs extra care in this air. Carbon steel grinding dust on a 316L surface can rust within days on the Gulf Coast, so we keep stainless-only brushes and discs and passivate when the spec asks.
FAQ

Call or text (346) 561-0862. A photo of the part usually answers half the questions.
Do you do mobile welding at refineries in Pasadena and Baytown?
Yes. We bring mobile TIG rigs to plants along the Ship Channel, including Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte and Baytown. Every site has its own orientation, permit and badging process, and terminals may need a TWIC card. Send the site rules along with the scope and we'll plan around them.
Can you TIG weld an aluminum boat in Clear Lake or Kemah?
Yes. Most marine aluminum is 5052 or 5086, welded with 5356 filler on AC. We can work on the trailer, in a dry stack or at the slip if the marina allows hot work. Cracks near engine mounts, T-top bases and transom brackets are the usual ones. Photos of the crack help.
How much does TIG welding cost in Houston?
It depends on the metal, the number of joints, access, and whether the work is mobile or in the shop. Plant jobs add time for orientation, permits and fire watch. Our TIG welding cost guide lays out typical Texas market ranges and what moves them. For a real number, send drawings or photos.
Can you weld to ASME B31.3 at a Houston plant?
We weld to the code your project specifies, including ASME B31.3 process piping and B31.1 power piping. Give us the WPS, or the code and material so a procedure can be qualified, plus the inspection plan, whether that's visual, PT or RT. If the job requires a stamped contractor, say so in the request.
Do Houston jobs get done on site or in your shop?
We serve the metro with mobile rigs and take shop work for parts that can be shipped or delivered. Travel is quoted by distance. Call (346) 561-0862 or send the details through our quote form.
